Argumentative Essay Eng 101 Free Essays

In the little town of Taiji, there is a shrouded inlet where Japanese anglers butcher a large number of dolphins every year. The slaughter of these dolphins continues for a half year out of the year. The dolphins are driven in to hostage by utilizing painful submerged clamors and huge nets to trap them in to this bay where they are butchered. We will compose a custom article test on Pugnacious Essay Eng 101 or on the other hand any comparable point just for you Request Now A portion of the dolphins are murdered in the inlet, by anglers cutting their throats with blades or wounding them with lances, while others are taken seaward into trucks and hauled by their tails to be slaughtered later. The encompassing water is brilliant red with the blood of these dolphins and the air is loaded up with their startling shouts. Other than the maltreatment and pointless killings of these excellent animals, another issue that is going unnoticed is that the dolphin meat is loaded up with mercury and being devoured by the Japanese unwittingly. The last significant issue is dolphinariums supporting the Japanese angler by paying a huge number of dollars for chose dolphins to live in bondage for diversion purposes. The slaughter of dolphins occurring in the little murdering bay in Taiji is completely terrible. Not exclusively are these animals being slaughtered for superfluous reasons, however they are being tormented simultaneously. The pursuit begins with anglers driving long metal poles into the sea and beating on them with sledges to make a sound wall that will scare the dolphins. When the dolphins hear this clamor, they frenzy and swim toward the shallow bay. This tiring pursue can proceed for as long as eight hours and once they are in the inlet, nets are put to guarantee that they won't escape. Promptly the following morning, after the dolphins have been ensnared throughout the night, the anglers come in little vessels to butcher the dolphins. They drive long metal lances into their bodies, cut their throats, and now and again spread their blowholes to suffocate them. While these blameless dolphins battle for their lives the anglers have definitely no blame or regret for what they are doing. The dolphins are being executed for reasons unknown specifically, actually, the Japanese anglers see what they do as a type of irritation control. â€Å"The Japanese government tell the anglers that dolphins are â€Å"pests† that eat too many fish, however the genuine explanation behind fishery decreases is over-angling, environmental change, and contamination. † (http://www. battle whale. organization. battles/Japan/dolphins) Another problem that is begging to be addressed that has been concealed is the utilization of dolphin meat unconsciously. The meat is profoundly defiled with mercury and isn't alright for human utilization. Levels of mercury in the human body presents genuine wellbeing dangers, particularly to pregnant ladies and kids. The debased dolphin meat is erroneously bundled, and individuals are expending this food accepting that it is very good quality fish meat. The mercury topped meat is additionally finishing off in school snacks and youngsters are catching genuine diseases and distortions because of the recklessness of the anglers pressing this meat. Speculatively, if dolphin meat was ok for utilization, it is profoundly fantastic that 23,000 dolphins should be slaughtered every year to address utilization issues. Dolphin meat offered to the Japanese individuals is profoundly debased with mercury, methyl mercury, cadmium, DDT and PCBs. The Japanese government gives no admonition that eating dolphin meatâ poses a genuine wellbeing danger. (http://www. gatekeeper. co. uk/film/film/132131/inlet. ) Perhaps the most stunning part of the dolphin drive chase is the dynamic job that some dolphinariums play in continuing the chase. The anglers of Taiji would will drive a huge school of dolphins into the little slaughtering inlet, and dolphins mentors rush to the scene to locate the most attractive dolphins for their showcase offices. By working with the anglers and paying as much as 200,000 dollars a dolphin, they are keeping up the dolphin drive butchers. The developing determination process delays for a few hours, and a few dolphins kick the bucket from either stun, wounds, or weariness. During this time some make mad endeavors at remaining at the outside of the water, yet their pectoral balances have been separated or broken. A harmed dolphin merits nothing to the aquarium business and the dolphin coaches essentially corridor the perishing dolphins again into the water and dump them, indicating no feeling at all. (http://www. savejapandolphins. organization/faq. php) Dophinariums that buy dolphins guarantee that they are sparing the dolphins from butcher, be that as it may, this is altogether incorrect. The main spare the ones that can be economically misused and leave the â€Å"rejects† to be slaughtered by the anglers. There are numerous realities to help that the slaughtering of the dolphins in Japan is superfluous, fierce, and bleakly off-base. How these creatures are pursued and tormented before they need to persevere through a horrendous passing is tragic. This is an issue that is progressing notwithstanding the persistent endeavors to stop what's going on. The best way to stop the killings is to open them to the world. The objective of attempting to get film of the butchers is for mindfulness purposes on the grounds that the more that this issue become misused, the better possibility there is to stop what is befalling these dolphins. Proposal for Organizational Change Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Proposition for Organizational Change - Essay Example It has been assessed that over 5.5 million social insurance specialist organization are presented to the danger of reaching blood borne pathogens. The vast majority of these blood borne pathogens cause genuine wellbeing ailments and along these lines diminishing this wellbeing hazard is extremely basic measure in clinical assistance industry. Instances of blood borne pathogens incorporate; Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Both Hepatitis B and C infections among others in addition to other possibly irresistible materials (OPIM). The Needle Stick Safety and Prevention Act was ordered because of expanded instances of needle stick wounds that were turning into a genuine wellbeing peril. It was build up in 2000 by congress and it ordered the upkeep of sharps injury log and cooperation of all social insurance specialist co-ops in assessment and settling on the selection of gadgets to be utilized. In light of the Needle stick Safety act foundation, OSHA in 2001 updated the Blood Borne pathogens Standard so as to agree to the demonstration. Suggestions were made accessible to social insurance suppliers, associations speaking to clinical consideration laborers, specialists, training foundations, master and industry affiliations, and clinical gadgets makers. The utilization of more secure clinical contraption, for example, non obtrusive frameworks and sharp instruments with adjusted defenders to

Concepts Of Time And Eternity

Ideas Of Time And Eternity Before starting to take a gander at time and time everlasting it is important to pose two inquiries; what is time and what is endlessness? Forever is regularly thought of as presence for a boundless measure of time albeit many use it to mean an ageless presence through and through, a presence outside of time itself. So our idea of time everlasting is from multiple points of view dependant on our idea of time. So then what is time? This has been examined and considered by numerous savants starting with Aristotle, who theorized that time might be movement. He did anyway include that movement could be more slow or quicker however time couldn't be, it was a steady. Aristotle clearly didn't think about Einsteins hypothesis of relativity in which time can likewise change. Additionally when Einstein was chipping away at his hypothesis of general relativity and proposed his then progressive thought that mass can bend space, he didn't know that the universe was extending. So our idea or meani ng of time is as yet something which, with our further revelations of how the Universe is built, we are as yet creating. So we will at that point take a glance at how time and forever have been seen truly by logicians and how this has been created up to the current day. Let us first investigate the movement of our idea of time. In old Greek way of thinking Plato talks about the Demiurge. The demiurge is a term for a craftsman like figure which is liable for the forming and support of the physical universe. The demiurge anyway isn't the maker figure in the monotheistic strict sense, both the demiurge itself and the material from which the demiurge molds the universe are considered either uncreated and unceasing, or the result of some other being. Plato theorizes that the Demiurge makes request known to man. The Demiurge is a power that gives request and solidness of a sort and has a significant spot in Platos thought on schedule. In the Timaeus, a few potential contentions can be picked concerning the nature, starting or without a doubt no start of time. Aristotle rather than Plato attempts to demonstrate in his Physics, that time neither has a start nor an end. His primary contention rotates around the point that time or movement consistently was. On the off chance that something that had the characteristics of movement of development existed, at that point it would either must have been in consistent development or started to move. Along these lines, something that starts should too end. That the paradise overall neither appeared nor concedes to demolition, as some attest, however is one and everlasting, going on forever or start of its absolute term, containing and grasping in itself the limitlessness of time, we may persuade ourselves by the contentions previously set out as well as by a thought of the perspectives on the individuals who vary from us in accommodating its generation. [1] For Aristotle time can have no start or end. Something which starts can't proceed forever. His idea likewise applies to thoughts, for example , the start of the world, since for the world to change, or start, God or the Creator would need to be dependent upon a divine being adjusting his perspective yet this would be incomprehensible. Basically put the possibility of their being a starting to time is in opposition to Aristotles thought. In the event that we return to Augustine, we see the significance of Scripture in the Confessions. In this manner comparable to time, in the event that we take the accompanying entry from the Book of Genesis, at that point we will see the essential functions or the underlying beginning stage for Augustines hypothesis on schedule. First and foremost God made the sky and the earth. Presently the earth was amorphous and void, haziness was over the outside of the profound, and the Spirit of God was floating over the waters. What's more, God stated, Let there be light, and there was light.â [2]â Unmistakably initially there more likely than not been an initial step taken for the world and in reality the universe to appear, and this was the desire of God. Augustine starts Book XI by asking O Lord, since forever is Yours, would you say you are oblivious of the things which I state unto You? Or then again observe Thou at the opportunity that which happens in time? Why, in this manner, do I place before You such huge numbers of relations of things? [3] Augustine has all the earmarks of being anxious about the possibility that that God is some way or another solidified in Eternity, genuinely without change, with no task to carry out. In any case, he takes comfort with the expectation that we additionally ask, but then Truth says, Your Father realizes what things you have need of before you ask Him. (Matt 6:8) [4] So God will accommodate Augustine, or if nothing else he trusts and thinks having red sacred writing that God accommodates him. So too has undeniable us the worl d and the universe. That he has made these things is sufficient for Augustine, as he says in Chap. 4 of book XI They [the sky and the earth] likewise announce that they made not themselves; in this way we are, on the grounds that we have been made; we were not thusly before we were, so we could have made ourselves.â [5]â Here we see Augustine wonder about God in his making of the universe. For Augustine he is attempting to show how opportunity arrived into reality with the formation of Heaven and Earth. God made this universe and everything in it and time, as we probably am aware it, started with creation, before all else. However there are a few inquiries that should be replied as St. Augustine shows us. Also, no occasions are co-interminable with You, since You stay for ever; yet should these proceed, they would not be times. For what is time? Who can without much of a stretch and quickly clarify it? Who even in thought can appreciate it, even to the articulating of a word concerning it? Be that as it may, what in talking do we allude to more recognizably and purposely than time? Undoubtedly we comprehend when we talk about it; we see likewise when we hear it discussed by another. What, at that point, is time? [6] This is an awesome inquiry, however is there an answer? Augustine doesn't appear to have the option to discover one. When he remarks on individuals who ask what God was doing before time started he says Behold, I answer to him who asks, What was God doing before He made paradise and earth? I answer not, as someone in particular is accounted for to have done flippantly (maintaining a str ategic distance from the weight of the inquiry), He was getting ready heck, says he, for the individuals who get into secrets I strongly state, That before God made paradise and earth, He made nothing. For on the off chance that He did, what did He make except if the animal? Furthermore, would that I realized whatever I want to know to further my potential benefit, as I realize that no animal was made before any animal was made.â [7]â Augustine tries to clarify endlessness being a snapshot of time, But should the present be consistently present, and should it not take a break past, time really it couldn't be, yet eternity. [8] Time at that point, instead of time everlasting, is continually moving and it is consistently moving, as Aristotle said. Forever, in any case, stays consistent, constant and complete. Yet at the same time we are left with that apparently basic inquiry; what is time? In the event that we see time as movement, continually proceeding onward, at that point we can take a gander at past time or uture time. It is hard to attempt to make any solid cases over the issue of past, present and future. For instance, in the event that we state that the previous day has been a long one, are we not discussing a day or an express that does not exist anymore? This is additionally the situation in the event that we talk about what's to come. How might we remark on the future, for example it will be a cool week or a warm day, in the event that it doesn't exist. In any case, would we be able to gauge time in the present? Augustine dispatches into conversation of the here and now that demonstrates the purposelessness to get a handle on what time is. Be that as it may, we measure times passing when we measure them by seeing them; yet past occasions, which currently are not, or future occasions, which up 'til now are not, who can gauge them? Except if, perchance, any on e will set out to state, that that can be estimated which isn't. When, along these lines, time is passing, it tends to be seen and estimated; yet when it has passed, it can't, since it is not. [9] Augustine keeps on narrowing down the here and now into days, hours, minutes, pulses and in the long run into a solitary second, If any bit of time be considered which can't currently be isolated into even the minutest particles of minutes, this just is what might be called present; which, in any case, flies so quickly from future to past, that it can't be reached out by any deferral. For in the event that it be expanded, it is isolated into the past and future; yet the present has no space. [10] We have gone to a phase whereby it is practically futile attempting to try and get time, regardless of whether past, present or future. Augustines conversation on time is amazing yet he is confronted with that question once more, that despite everything has not been replied. What is time? It is excessively troublesome, maybe unimaginable, to offer conceivable clarifications. The response to the topic of time is to be found, incomprehensibly, outside of time.. in time everlasting We exist in this transient world, however don't see completely what time is to us. We are essentially not in a situation to completely grasp time. After much looking, discussing and examining, Saint Augustine gradually slows down to a supplication, a petition of acknowledgment and expectation. You unchangeably everlasting, that is, the genuinely interminable Creator of brains. As, at that point, Thou in the Beginning knew the paradise and the earth with no difference in Your insight, so in the Beginning Thou made paradise and earth with no interruption of Your activity. Let him who comprehends admit unto You; and let him who comprehends not, admit unto You. Gracious, how commended are You, but the humble in heart are Your home; for Thou raisest up those that are bowed down, and they whose praise You are fall not.â [11]â God exists outside of Time. Time is an animal made by God. Divine beings Will isn't worldly similar to our own. That Eternal God exists takes into consideration all that we know. Things being what they are, we ask once more, what is time? As indicated by Augustine, and other Christian authors and scholars, It is a creation, much the same as you or me. We exist in it and travel in this fleeting

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW BEFORE CHOOSING YOUR CAREER LADDER?Career planning and career ladder climbing should always begin with two simple steps.First, you need to understand your strengths and weaknesses and second, you must figure out the skills your ideal job requires.Step 1: Mapping your strengths and weaknessesFinding the right career path is easier once you know more about yourself. It’s not a good idea to pick a job randomly, without thinking about the strengths your skillset and personality might bring to the role. In addition, understanding the weaknesses you have can eliminate the roles you would not enjoy. For example, not all of us are interested or even good at helping out other people. If you don’t critically analyze your own personality, you might find yourself in a customer service job you hate. The best way to start mapping out your strengths and weaknesses is by answering the following questions:What are my strengths? Perhaps you can speak five languages or you are good at solving problems. You want to use this as a guide to finding the careers that require these skills. What are my weaknesses? You might not be g ood at math or you don’t like to spend time with children. These can help you eliminate career paths, like accounting and nursing, which you are clearly not suited for. What are the things I want from a job? Do you want to be part of a team or work on your own? Is financial reward important to you? It’s crucial to think what ultimate drives you professionally. What are the things that are the most important to me, both in personal life and in a career? Are you more family or career oriented? Do you value having flexible schedule? The above questions are worthy of asking even if you are already employed. It’s never too late to start thinking about our own values and personality. It might well be that your strengths over the years have changed and it’s time to change the career path with them.Furthermore, you should also think about the follow-up questions:Where am I now professionally? This can be both the subject you’re studying or the job you currently hold.Where would I wan t to be professionally? What is the role you’d rather be in, in case it isn’t the one you are currently studying for or holding a job?If you are struggling with some of the questions, such as understanding your strengths and weaknesses, it can be a good idea to ask advice from friends and family. They might point out characteristics that you didn’t necessarily think as your strengths.Learn the key to success from Chess Grandmaster Gary Kasparov. Step 2: Mapping the skills needed for your ideal jobThe above is going to help you find a direction for your career path. You can examine your strengths and use them to find the ideal career for yourself. You can even use career tests for determining a list of suitable roles based on your personality.Your next move is to map out the skills you need to achieve in order to fulfil the dreams you have in terms of your professional goals. Start by answering the following questions:What careers meet my skills and my interests? Have a list of the roles that suit your skills and interests the best. What are the best ways to obtain the required skills? Is it by studying or through work experience, for example? What options do I have for pursuing my favorite career? Where do I find them? Does the career require a degree or a specific set of qualifications? How and where can you obtain them? What non-work activities am I pursuing that might help me? Depending on the career it might be that your hobbies give you an added advantage. For example, you might be an amateur photographer who wants to eventually become a renowned wedding photographer. The idea is to create a list of the options you have in terms of your career path. For instance, it can be possible to start your own bakery business by studying at a baking school or by pursuing it as a hobby at first.Check out the TEDx video about finding a career  youll love. PLANNING YOUR CAREER PATHThe above steps helped you understand your skills, needs and values, and to find out ho w these can help you get on the right career path. Your next move requires you to focus on creating a career path that gets you on the career ladder.Develop a career roadmapFirst, you need to develop a roadmap of the career goals you’d like to achieve. The roadmap should include the ultimate goal, the dream career or position you want to have. This could be the dream of starting your own construction business, becoming a CEO of a fashion company, or obtaining a good management job at a hospitality firm, for example.Furthermore, the roadmap needs to include the short-term milestones that get you closer to this ultimate goal. The milestones should be annual, meaning your ultimate goal is set to around 10 years time, for instance. For that duration, you can then identify 10 or less smaller milestones, which ensure you achieve the goal in time.Start by researching the different career routes that can get you there. For instance, in order to become the CEO, you might first want to gain experience as a middle manager, a senior manager and so on.Part of the roadmap will also include skill development. In most instances, in order to progress on the career ladder, you’ll need to constantly develop your skills and gain experience in the industry. When it comes to training and skills, think about:What are the new skills you need to meet your next career objective and to reach the milestone? Your next move might require a course on a specific subject or technique, such as the ability to use certain accounting software. You might also need to gain experience in middle management for three years before looking for a promotion. Maybe you need to be able to code. What are the new trends within the industry you need to know about? Your industry might have started using new technologies or techniques, which could help you on your career path. For example, as a beautician you’d need to learn about new facial care products and even techniques.Study your past routeThe second p art of the planning process is especially important for people who are already on the career ladder. It helps analyze the past choices and evaluate their importance going forward. Nonetheless, everyone should keep the step in mind, when re-evaluating his or her career path. The idea is to regularly look at the milestones created above and see if you are achieving your goals. You also want to focus on the right and wrong decisions you’ve made in terms of your career. By understanding the right moves and perhaps more importantly the wrong ones, you can use the knowledge to your advantage. For instance, you might realize that taking time off to study has stalled your career progression and it would be more beneficial to simply train while working. It’s auspicious to have a career roadmap, not just for the future, but also of the past. The roadmap of the past will allow you to reflect on the past choices. You should list all of your past career moves, both jobs and studies you’ve und ertaken. Include the changes you’ve experienced. Once you’ve done it, examine the roadmap closer.Ask yourself:What is good about your past choices? What are the roles that have got you ahead? What would you do differently now? Are there specific career choices that didn’t work out as well for you?HOW TO CLIMB THE CAREER LADDER QUICKER?Climbing the career ladder can be difficult, especially if you don’t have a career plan. Therefore, it’s essential to focus on the above points before you try to speed up your career progression. The above would have provided you with goals, short- and long-term, and cleared the path to achieving them.Once you are clear about your objectives, you can climb up the career ladder quicker by focusing on two steps. You want to learn to use your accomplishments as a tool and point out innovative ideas for your managers and colleagues in order to gain recognition.Step 1: Keep a record of your accomplishmentsSome people are rather shy when it comes to their achievements, but in order to climb the career ladder you must learn to take pride in the work you’ve done. You shouldn’t become arrogant, but you need to take ownership of your accomplishments.Start by keeping a clear record of the things you’ve achieved during your career. This should include promotions, bonuses for exceptional work and any other industry related awards you might have achieved. Include any other major accomplishments that can highlight a particular skill of yours. Perhaps you’ve been recognized by a charity or a non-profit organization for your voluntary or even paid work.Ensure the accomplishments reflect on the skills and characteristics required in the roles and jobs you are aiming for. When you are ready to move on the ladder, communicate these accomplishments clearly to the prospective employer. Remember that depending on the role and the point you are in your career, certain accomplishments are better suited for the application. You want to use the achievements at the core of building your resume, as they can instantly highlight the transferable skills you have. With a resume full of the right kinds of accomplishments, you can start taking your career to the next level. You shouldn’t just mention your achievements when applying for new roles. In fact, it is important to keep mentioning the positive feedback you receive to your managers. For instance, if your clients are telling you that you do an amazing job, you can let your boss know about it in a non-arrogant manner. You can write a quick note to them, saying, “Hi, just wanted to let you know that I sealed the deal with client A after weeks of negotiating. A just sent me email stating how happy they were with the results. Great news!”In short: Be the employee every employer wishes for. Step 2: Point out opportunitiesFinally, in order to boost your chances of being hired further on the career ladder and climbing closer to your goal, you need to be active in the work place. Taking the initiative and making recommendations around the workplace can ensure people take notice. If you identify a problem in an organization or simply a better way of doing something, don’t be afraid to talk about it with the management. Don’t suggest changes by saying, “You’re doing this wrong”, but point out the benefits of changing course. For instance, “I was thinking about the accounting software we use and found out about this other program. I looked at it briefly and it seemed to be able to do these two functions at the same time with less cost. I thought you might be interested in having a look.”You don’t want to be pointing fingers or accusing others of doing things wrong, but rather, explaining the benefits to everyone of the different approach. The saying, “The early bird gets the worm’ is true. If you are actively looking at ways to solve problems or improving the organization you work for, you are presenting yourself as an innovative and ent husiastic worker. The ability to think outside the box will surely be noticed by the organization. The ability to innovate also refers more widely to the industry you operate in. Don’t lie low and just hope you can climb the ladder some day. Become an active member within the industry and try to find ways to make it better. This means participating in business events, blogging about the industry, participating in seminars and speaking about the sector, and continuously improving your skills and understanding. Finally, a great way to network with contacts and to improve your career progression is by mentoring. If you can be the guide for new people in your organization or mentor other entrepreneurs, you create a powerful networking opportunity. Furthermore, you’ll also develop your personal brand into someone who’s trustworthy and helpful.Climbing the career ladder isn’t about elbowing other people out of the way. If you help others than they are more likely to return the favor . The young boy delivering goods at your company might well be the CEO of a company one day. If you gave him tips, he might well hire you as the VP of his company.CONCLUSIONChoosing the perfect career path requires careful examination of yourself and the options around you. It is important to take time to carefully map your interests and dreams because finding the right career will guarantee you’re more satisfied in your personal life as well.In order to steer your career towards the right objectives, you need to remember to stay positive and behave in a constructive and positive manner. Climbing the career ladder requires constant re-evaluation, but it’s always best achieved when you approach it positively.

Why The Union North Won The Civil War - Free Essay Example

On June 29, 1863, a spy from the Confederate army watches the movement of the Union army. He rode his horse to inform Gen. James Longstreet of the Unions position, surprising Longstreet, who did not know that the Union army was so close to him, about 200 miles of where he was. Gen. Jeb Stuart was supposed to keep other Confederates soldiers informed of where the Union was, but failed to do so. Union Gen. John Buford had occupied Gettysburg with his cavalry and sent word to Gen. John Reynolds, who is the infantry commander, to come with reinforcements because the Confederates could attack soon. He had the high ground in some hills nearby, it was a very good defensive position to take up. July 1 had some storms on the way. Gen. Robert E. Lee had some troubles with his heart, it was because he was getting older. Gen. Robert E. Lee was waiting for some reports on the enemys position, even when they had a spy tell them of the forces whereabouts, Lee didnt not like the word spy or like to use their information .Many of his officers think that the Union army is nowhere close to Gettysburg, but Longstreets spy says there is cavalry already waiting in the town, and where ever the cavalry is, the infantry will be behind them. Lee asks his right-hand man, Longstreet, to stay away from the front line in the upcoming battle because he could not afford to lose him. Lee really trusted Longstreet, and knew he was the future. On the opposite side of the field there was a man named Buford of the union. Some of Buford men didnt think Reynolds, which is another commander, would come to their aid in time if at all. Buford told them if he says he coming he will be there because he thinks him to be an honorable man. Bufords troops defend Cemetery Hill against a Confederate attack, and where almost overrun. Buford sent word to Reynolds to help many time during the battle, after nearly holding out for 6 hours, Reynolds comes like he said he would as their reinforcement. Buford and Reynolds meet up and give each other the information they had before Reynolds is shot and killed, which Buford had a hard time coping with. Lee then moved his troops toward the direction of Gettysburg. Several small battles take place and to the Unions surprise, the Confederates appeared to be winning. After winning some Lee had some momentum and wanted to attack in full force the next day, but Longstreet thought it was not such a good idea, since theyre outnumbered. Even with their small victories, they were still at a bad spot for attacking up hill, because the Union held the high ground on Cemetery Hill and other nearby hills the confederates could not advance. Lee was mad at Gen. Richard Ewell, because he was new to his command, and for not trying to take the high ground away from the Union even though they were outnumbered by them. On July 2, the Confederates began to prepare to attack the Union. Lee wants a final, end all be all battle. Lees plan is not that bad, because if you can force a larger army to fight a smaller army in a narrow passing the smaller army has a chance to win. The Confederates think they can reroute Gen. George Meades Union army. An officer from England named Arthur Fremantle was with the Confederates as an observer, and has high hopes and is certain that the Confederates will win because he believes that they are better people and the Union soldiers are trash. Fremantle thinks that American democracy failed because the South has very strict social classes, just like his home country back in England. On the other side of the army lines and the social beliefs, there was a man named Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain of the Union Army and he wanted all humans to be equal to each other. His men had found an injured escaped slave, who didnt speak English. Chamberlain makes sure the slave received food and had a doctor treat his wound. Chamberlain felt bad because, he still felt the man to be lower class and really didnt like the guy, but still felt that the other man was his equal and should be treated that way. Chamberlain had a very strong sense of belief and strong fighting spirt, which made him a great Col. Lee wants to do an echelon attack, which means diagonally arranging units so they arrive one after the other all most like waves. But once the Confederates start marching towards Cemetery Ridge, they seen that the Union has moved its position some, they gave up the high ground and retreated a little bit into a peach orchard which was some ways back. This meant a more marching and moving around the terrain for the Confederate troops, who were already tired. Longstreet then tells Gen. John Hood to attack the peach orchard. Hood says that the Union already knows his position and will see him coming and that such a direct attack will have heavy losses, but Longstreet went against what he knew to be right, because he was not willing to defy Lees orders again. Longstreet tells Hood that he must take the hill known as Little Round Top in order to take the orchard. Chamberlain received orders to form the regiment, the 20th Maine. They were ordered to hold Little Round Top at any cost, because were the far left section of the Union that holds the left flank; if they failed the Confederates would surround and attack the rest of the army from behind. As the battle goes on, the 20th Maine takes heavy damage, and they soon began to run out of ammo. Chamberlain did not abandon the hill, even though it could mean death for himself and his troops. He orders the men to put their bayonets on and charge. To Chamberlain surprise, the charge was successful and the nearby Confederate troops surrender because he would not give up that hill. When the fighting was done for that day, Longstreet found Hood wounded in the field hospital and learns that most of Hoods troops put the blame on himself for their major defeat at Devils Den. Longstreet reads the reports of the Confederate death toll for that day and now knows that Lee no longer has enough men for a maj or assault. On July 3, Longstreet tries to tell Lee that a frontal assault will not work because they lack enough men, but Lee is hardhead in his ways. As they talk, they heard cannon fire and found that Ewell has taken the fight to him, knowing Lee was weak and had low moral he launched a counter attack their troops, the battle had begun early then they wanted. Lee ordered Longstreet to charge the center of the Union army, in hopes to break their line. Longstreet knows this plan to be flawed and begs Lee to avoid direct frontal attack, but Lee didnt care what Longstreet had to say. Confederate Gen. Lew Armistead prepares to charge the Union line, but began to think of his best friend, Gen. Winfield Scott Hancock, who is fighting for the Union and he promised to never to harm. As Armisteads troops moved forward over open ground, a man named George Pickett lead the way which was called Picketts Charge after him, the Union cannons fired heavily and killed most of his troops. On the way to the hill the troops did a great job of staying together and staying in line, and pushing the flank but at the very end the men faltered and bunched up which gave the union an opening. Armistead and some troops made it to their objective at the top of the ridge, but by then the small amount of troops couldnt hold and their attack failed, Armistead then died while trying to ask a Union officer to send his apologies to Hancock. Later Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered. During these battles the union always seem to have the upper hand. The union also had very good leaders because they believed what they were fighting for was right, like Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The Union also held the high ground for most of the battles which made it harder for the Confederate army attack. Even though the Confederate army won some previous smaller battles, they could never figure out the Unions game plan. Robert E. Lee was a good leader but refused to take advice from his men even when it was logical. The Confederate got desperate to take the hills around them and in doing so lost a lot men, Lee didnt seem to care for his man or strategy. I think Little Round Top Hill was the turning point because the Confederate army lost most of their men in that battle, which led to a counter attack by the Union and took the Confederate army by surprise which won them the fight. The union seemed to be ahead and anticipate the Confederate army, and was determine to hold even at the cost of their own lives. The Union Choose to defend while making the Confederate army attack, making them come in waves and making them lose men little by little until they didnt have enough men, to repel the counter attack. The Union Army seemed to me better suited for open field battle, and had great leadership on their side, this is why the Union North won the Civil War. During these battles people seem to forget that the north was fighting because they belive all men to be equal and won. The south only cared about money and how slaves were tools to be used to make it. It was a battle for human equality vs human greed.
